The role of all the members of the Rector’s Council is to assist the Rector of the University in ensuring the continued presence of the Catholic and Marianist characteristics on campus.

Members fulfill this role through:

  • regular attendance and participation at monthly Council meetings and annual retreats

  • serving on sub-committees as needed

  • attending functions sponsored by the Office of the Rector

  • creating opportunities to engaged others by word or action in the Marianist spirit

  • acting as a resource to the Rector in conveying ideas and information pertinent to the Catholic and Marianist nature of the University of Dayton

Membership

The Rector’s Council is composed of twenty members, including three standing members, the Rector, the Director of Campus Ministry and the Director of Marianist Activities. The other members represent different entities of the University. The Council strives to maintain a gender balance as well as a balance between faculty and staff.

Nominations for the membership are solicited by the Rector from the professed Marianists employed on campus as well as from existing members of the Council.  Nominations are accepted as a vacancy occurs.

Members of the Rector’s Council are invited to serve one term of three years (except Standing Members). At the conclusion of the term, the Rector and each member will discuss the possibility of extending the term.
