Marianist Awards
The Lackner Award Recipients
The Lackner Award is named in honor of Brother Elmer Lackner whose influence permeated nearly all areas of University
life. Brother Elmer,
known as Mr. UD, served at the
University of Dayton for forty-five years.
When Brother Elmer died in 1984, the UD Marianists, priests
and brothers established this award.
The Lackner Award is given to full-time UD lay faculty or staff
who, over a significant period of time, has made a noteworthy contribution to
the Catholic and Marianist character of the University of Dayton.
Nominations are made by
the vowed Marianists employed at UD, members of the Rector's
Council, and previous award recipients. These nominations
are accepted annually during the month of October. If you
would like to make a nomination, please contact a member of one of
these groups.

Student Award
Recipients
2005 marks the
inauguration of the Marianist Student Award, named after its
first recipient, Maureen Elizabeth O’Rourke. This annual award
initiated by the Rector’s Council, is designed to acknowledge
the contribution of a graduating senior who exemplifies the
Marianist charism on campus. The Rector’s Council identified
the following criteria for the award.
The recipient
of the award is someone who:
·
Leads and serves in the tradition
of the Catholic and Marianist spirit of the University
·
Actively supports and promotes the
Catholic and Marianist character of UD
·
Embodies a welcoming and
cooperative presence to members of the UD community
·
Improves the campus climate for all
members of the campus community
·
Initiates new approaches to
fostering the Catholic and Marianist nature of the University of
Dayton
Vowed Marianists on campus and members of the
Rector’s Council will be asked to nominate students who embody
the Catholic and Marianist nature on campus based on the
criteria articulated above. In addition to those mentioned
earlier, Marianist Fellows, each Marianist Student Community and
the Executive Committee of SGA will be asked to submit no more
than two nominations. The nominations will be reviewed by
a selection committee appointed by the Rector of the University.
A slate of three names will be forwarded to the Rector’s Council
for discussion. A recommendation will then be forwarded to the
Rector.
